He was born May 27, 1948 in Haywood County to Georgia Haley Forney and the late James Forney.
James proudly served his country during the Vietnam Era in the United States Army. He retired from International Paper after 28 years.
He was a present and active member of Abundant Life Church in Decatur, Alabama where he served as a Deacon.
James enjoyed fishing, the outdoors, his family and his church. He loved to make people laugh, he had an amazing sense of humor.
He departed this life Friday, June 15, 2018 at Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville, Alabama.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his Wife of 19 years: Berda "Diane" Forney. 2 Daughters: Stephanie (Lonnie) Shorter and Tasha McClarrin. A Step-Daughter: Taja Payne. A Son: James Santana (Tina) Forney. A Step-Son: Tobias (Carmen) Payne. A Sister: Patricia (Dennis) Bryson. 2 Brothers: Donald L. Forney and Alvin D. (Lin) Forney. 15 Grandchildren. 3 Great-Grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of life will be held Thursday, June 21, 2018 at 2pm at Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home (located at 296 Main St. Waynesville, North Carolina).Rev. Walter Bryson and Pastor Ronnie Powell, officiating. Burial in Greenhill Cemetery in North Carolina with Military Honors. The family will receive friends from 12:00pm - 1:45pm prior to the funeral service. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 30, 2018 at 11:00am at Abundant Life Church(located at 524 Lafayette St. NE. Decatur, Alabama 35601). Pastor Ronnie Powell, Officiating the services. Sharpley Funeral Home assisted the family with local arrangements.
