James Harold Sharpley was born May 13, 1950, to the late Ledger Cleveland and Henrietta Garth-Sharpley in Decatur, Alabama.
He confessed a hope in Christ at an early age and joined Moulton Heights Missionary Baptist Church.
Harold was a graduate of West Morgan High School where he was one of the first black baseball and football players for the school. He was also a member of the State 4-H Conference in July 1963 in Tuskegee, Alabama and State 4-H Conference in July 1964 at Tuskegee Institute, Alabama. Harold and his brother, Pha, won a Blue Ribbon in 4-H Club Cows. Later he enlisted and served his country proudly and joined the Army National Guard. After working many years at GM-Saginaw, he retire and then dedicated his heart to encouraging education and success for his family, as well as the community.
He loved his grandchildren.. They loved their "Paw-Paw" just as much. Out of his many talents, he was well known as a third generation "BBQ Pit Master," and was very active in Little League Baseball. Harold was equally passionate in his support of "HBCU's, especially Alabama A&M. He was a sports fanatic who loved the Auburn Tigers(War-Eagle) and Dominos.
He is preceded in death by his parents. A Brother: Dr. Ronald Pah Sharple. His Aunts and Uncles.
He departed this life on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at Decatur Morgan Hospital.
Harold leaves to mourn his passing: A Son: Lamont (Delesha Cosby) Sharpley of Decatur, Alabama. 10 grandchildren, whom he loved deeply. A Brother: George "G.W." (Janet) Sharpley of Huntsville, Alabama. A Sister: Virenda (Luther) Orr of Nashville, Tenn. A Sister-In-Law: Betty Sharpley of Forsyth, Ga. 3 Nieces: Teresa Sharpley of Decatur, Alabama. Cynthia (Von) Sharpley-Mason of McCalla, Alabama. Michell (Douglas) Sharpley-McCarver of Triana, Alabama. 2 Nephews: Michael Sharpley of Madison, Alabama. Toronzo Orr of Nashville, Tenn. A Longtime Special Confidant: Shelia Shelton-Sharpley of Decatur, Alabama. A Loving Host of Great-Nieces, Great-Nephews, Great-Great-Nieces and Great-Great-Nephews and other relatives and friends.
Under the directing of Sharpley Funeral Home. Funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at 12:00pm at Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church (Located at 7565 Greenbrier Rd. Madison, Alabama 35756). Rev. Joe H. Cater, Pastor-Officiating. Burial in Sterrs Cemetery. The body will be in church 1 hr., before the services. The family will receive friends Monday, April 22, 2019 from 6:00pm-8:00pm at The Henrietta Garth-Sharpley Memorial Chapel (Located at 410 Railroad St. NW. Decatur, Alabama 35601).
