John Maxwell, Jr. Obituary

Mr. John Louis Maxwell, Jr., was born in Limestone County, Alabama to the late John L. and Anna Belle Maxwell, Sr.

Affectionately called "Big John," he attended Decatur Negro High School. John had always been a hard worker. He was employed by Ingalls Harbor Ship Yard for 10 years. The Box Factory for 22 years and Alabama Co-Op for 30 years, where he retired.

John confessed Christ at an early age and later joined King's Memorial United Methodist Church where he remained a faithful member and was active in the Wednesday and Sunday Adult Bible Classes.

John met and fell in love with Georgia M Malone and was united into Holy Matrimony in 2016.

4 Children preceded him in death: David, Shirley, Lillie and Martha.

He departed this life for his Heavenly Home on September 2, 2018 at his residence.

He leaves to cherish his memories: A Loving and Devoted Wife: Georgia Mae Maxwell of Decatur, Alabama. 4 Children: Clara Jones of Birmingham, Alabama. Shelia Jones and John (Tammy) Jones of Decatur, Alabama. Suranda (Donald) Battle of Huntsville, Alabama. Brothers-In-Law: Walter (Willie) Jones, Floyd (Franzetta) Jones of Decatur, Alabama. Sisters-In-Law: Doris Jones of Decatur, Alabama. Pearl (Lorenzo) Elliott of Huntsville, Alabama. 4 Aunts: Roxie Benford, Beulah Mason, Lillie Mae Horton and Cora Lee Toney. 1 Uncle: Willie Maxwell. Special Cousins: Ruby Elliott, Annie Powell and Bobbie Jo Bradley. A host of other relatives and friends.

Under the directing of Sharpley Funeral Home. Funeral will be held Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 1:00pm at Kings Memorial United Methodist Church (located at 702 McCartney St SW Decatur, Alabama 35601).  Senior Pastor Roderick Stallworth. Associate Pastor Michael Jefferson. Burial in Roselawn Memory Gardens. The body will be in church 1 hr. before the services.
