Mother Cora McVay-Horton Obituary

Mrs. Cora Lee McVay-Horton was born February 8, 1915 to Jerry and Louise McVay in Lawrence County where she grew up and made Hillsboro her life long residency.

Mother Horton accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at the age of 12 at O' Canaan Church(renamed Canaan Missionary Baptist Church in Hillsboro, Alabama)., where Rev. Campbell baptized her. She was a life long faithful member.

Mother Horton was a joyful person who loved to laugh with endless jokes. She loved her family and believed in having a kind and forgiving heart.

She's preceded in death by her 1st husband: Guy Moore, Sr. 5 Sons: Robert L. Moore, John Moore, Sr., Eugene Moore, McKinley Moore and Jerry Moore. Several Step-Grandchildren: Guy, Jr., Katie Mae, Ophelia, Augusta, Leo, Buster and William Moore. Last Husband: Henry Horton and her siblings: Robert McVay, Jerry McVay, Jr. and Sallie Harbee.

She leaves Cherish her Loving and Precious Memories: A Loving Daughter: Liz Moore-Bates of Hillsboro, Alabama. Dedicated Grandson: Freddie Moore of Decatur, Alabama. A Loving Granddaughter: Crystal Bates-(Johnathan) West of Athens, Alabama. 26 Grandchildren. 60 Great-Grandchildren. 50 Great-Great-Grandchildren. 1 Sister-In-Law: Helen (Baby Sis) Duncan of Louisville, Ky. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Special thanks to all Canaan Missionary Baptist Church members, family and friends for all acts of love and kindness in our time of grief. May God continue to bless you and keep you!!

Under the directing of Sharpley Funeral Home. Funeral will be held Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at 12:00pm at Canaan Missionary Baptist Church in Hillsboro, Alabama. Burial in Sterrs Cemetery. The body will be in church 1hr before the services.
