After Sylvia graduated from Broad Ripple High School, she received a Certificate from a local Technical School. She spent many years working as a Bank Teller and worked several other jobs. She also worked briefly for a Bank and Electronics Store in Tennessee.

She accepted Christ at an early age and later became a faithful member of Community Christian Church. In 2008 she and Elsie moved to Antioch, Tennessee to be close to family. Family was very important to Sylvia. There she joined Simon Baptist Church and became very active. She and the family moved to Valhermoso Springs, Alabama in 2013 and she joined Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church. Sylvia loved serving the Lord, singing in the Church's Choirs, participating in Sunday School, Women's Missions and many other church activities. She loved reading and studying the Bible. When she could no longer live with her family, due to health issues, she moved to Brookshire Healthcare Center. There she was also active in church services, as well as other activities. She resided at Brookshire until she departed this life Wednesday, October 10, 2018.
