Myrtle L. (Verge) Martin

Myrtle Lee Verge-Martin was born on July 26, 1938, to the Late Roosevelt Verge Sr. and Annie Mae Sandifer-Verge. Myrtle accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Big Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church after moving back to Alabama from Detroit, Michigan under the Leadership of the Late Pastor Woodrow Kirby Jr. She later moved her membership to Fresh Start Christian Ministry under the Leadership of Pastor Leonard Shackleford in 2018 where she remained until her passing. Myrtle loved to cook, bake cakes, fishing and watching tennis on TV. In 1976 she earned her Certificate of Accomplishment at the Fairbanks School of Dressmaking.

On April 20, 1957, she married the late Columbus Martin Jr, and to this union five children were born. Myrtle answered the Master’s call on Sunday, April 17, 2022 at Huntsville Hospital. She is proceeded in death by her daughter: Diane Martin, her son: Perry W. Martin, her Sister: Edwina Verge-Caudle and her Parents: Roosevelt Sr. and Annie Mae Sandifer-Verge.

She leaves to cherish her memories her Sons: Elex E. Martin (Patricia Simmons) and Derek Martin (Crystal Y. Martin), her Daughter: Delois Martin-Parker (Marvin Parker). Her Sisters: Annie Verge- Kirby, Ola Verge-Sharpley, Katherine Verge-Wiggins and Hattie Fuller-Turner, A Brother: Roosevelt Verge Jr. (Annie L. Verge). Grandchildren: Crystal, Leann, Brittany, Anikka, Derek Jr., Elexia and Jaila. Great-Grandchildren: Jalen, Jada and Alonzo Jr., Godsons: Hugh Ford, Mickey Ford and Kenneth Williams, a Best Friend for more than 55 years Beatrice Ford of Detroit, Michigan, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Under the directing of Sharpley Funeral Home graveside service for Ms. Myrtle L. Verge- Martin, 83, of Madison, Alabama who passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2022 at Huntsville Hospital will beheld on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at 12:00 noon at the New Hope Cemetery( located at 28520 Wall St. Madison, Al 35756). Pubic viewing will be held on Friday, April 22, 2022 from 12:00noon to 5:00PM and Saturday, April 23, 2022 from 9:00AM-11:00AM. The family is requesting only immediate family to attend the graveside service.
