Teresa Sharpley Obituary

Teresa Ann Sharpley was born in Decatur, Alabama at Baugh-Wiley Hospital to George W. Sharpley and Old Mae Verge-Sharpley on December 3, 1969

“Resa” as she was known by family and friends.

Resa is a 1988 graduate of Austin High School in Decatur, Alabama. In 1989 she began her life of taking care of the elderly and handicap and became a CNA-Certified Nursing Assistant for the then Medical Park Nursing Home in Decatur, Alabama. In 1990 she joined a lifelong Sisterhood: Elizabeth Chapter Order of Eastern Star on Oakwood Ave in Huntsville, Alabama.

She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior on August 11, 1986, at the age of 16 in the presence of the Late Rev. Jim Bailey. She was baptized and became a member of the Mt. Zion CPCA under the leadership of the Late Rev. Aaron Roney, where she remained until her passing.

Teresa has numerous jobs throughout her life such as: Winn Dixie in the Seafood Dept, Medical Park Nursing Home, USA Nursing Home Hospice of the Valley, and The Morgan County Health Department Home Health Service. Later she developed serious back issues and became her own boss sitting with the elderly and handicap in their homes.

After the death of her grandmother, Henrietta Garth-Sharpley in 1996 she began working full time with her father, GW Sharpley, at his place of business, Sharpley Funeral Home. Her father taught her how to go on first calls, meet with families to make final arrangements, and how to direct funerals. Resa had always said to family and friends that “She loved her job” and she felt like it was her calling to help families. In August 2019 she was diagnosed with Stage 4 Breast Cancer.

Teresa wore many hats in her life: Daughter, Sister, Grand-Daughter, Aunt, Great-Aunt, Niece, Friend, Co-Worker, but the hats she cherished the most was Christian and being a mother to Kaleb.

She is preceded in death by her Father: George “G.W’ Sharpley, Grandparents: Roosevelt and Annie Mae Sandifer-Verge Sr., Ledger and Henrietta Garth-Sharpley. Uncles: James Harold Sharpley and Dr. Ronald Pha Sharpley. Aunt: Edwina Verge-Caudle. All of whom are waiting at Heaven’s Gate for her.
