Waldon Antonio Dortch was born to the late Willie Ozell Dortch and Walter Clopton on September 22, 1971 at Decatur General Hospital in Decatur, Alabama. He passed this life on May 6, 2019 at VA Medical Center in Birmingham,Alabama.
Waldon accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Fletcher's Chapel Primitive Baptist Church in Greenbrier, under the leadership of Pastor Kenneth Lankford, Jr. He later joined Morning Star United Methodist Church in Belle, Mina under the leadership of his Natural Brother: Pastor Fred Jefferson. He also became a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church also under the leadership of Pastor Fred Jefferson in Hillsboro, Alabama.
Waldon was a member of the graduating Class Of 1989 of Austin High School in Decatur, Alabama.
He served his country faithfully when he joined the United States Army in 1989, becoming a Veteran of Desert Storm War (Saudi Arabia) in 1991. Waldon was a prolific writer and published author of 2 books of short stories: "Poppa Will Journey, Vol 1 and Poppa Will Journey, the Journey Continues, Vol 2." both books published by Decatur Printing Solutions, LLC in 2016 and 2017.
He is preceded in death by his sisters: Lillie May Harney, Easter Diane Harper. Brother: James Russell. Niece: Selina Joyce Harper.
He leaves to mourn and cherish his memories: A Beloved Wife: Pamela Matthews-Dortch. A Loving Daughter: Easter Dortch. 3 Brothers: Pastor Fred (Sharon) Jefferson, Carlos Dortch and Marcus Dortch. 4 Sisters: Brenda Sales, Jenny Mae Sales, Liza Mae Sales and Mary Fletcher. 5 Nephews: Billy Dewayne Harney, Bert Harper, Michael (Cahgan) Jefferson, Kyle (Kristen) Jefferson and Jacob Dortch. 3 Nieces: Sabrina (Edward) Gladney, Bridgette (Milton) Naylor an Emma Dortch, as well as a host of other relatives and close friends.
Under the directing of Sharpley Funeral Home. Funeral will be held Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 12:00pm at Mt. Olive Baptist Church (Located at 17078 Co. Rd. 400 Hillsboro, Alabama 35643). Pastor Fred Jefferson, Officiating. Burial in Sterrs Cemetery. The body will be in church 1hr., before the services.
