George William Sharpley was born and raised in Moulton Heights of Decatur, Alabama. He is the oldest of four siblings. His parents Ledger C. and Henrietta Garth-Sharpley both of whom are deceased. He was very close to his mother. She was responsible for answering calls for the funeral home. She compiled the information for the programs used at numerous funerals.

George worked at Sykes Funeral Home in Decatur, Alabama while attending high school. He was related to the owner of the funeral home. When Sykes Funeral Home closed, he was inspired to establish his own. So the dream of opening his own business came true on December 6, 1979 and was located on Wilson St. NW. Decatur, Alabama. In 1982, the business moved to its present location at 410 Railroad St. NW. Decatur, Alabama35601. The business has been successful every since, by The Grace Of God."
